Shanghai is the most populous city in the People’s Republic of China as well as the most populous city proper in the world. It is the second most populous of the four direct-controlled municipalities in China, with a population of more than 24 million as of 2014 and is only the registered people who live here. They say the population with registered and unregistered, can be around 32-34 million, that said, the city is huge. Shanghai is like Toronto or New York City, it’s not the capital city but it is where all the money is. Very modern and very up to date compared to most western countries. We have a Maglev that travels from Long Yang Subway station to the airport within about 15 minutes and travels around 420km/hr. Shanghai has the tallest building, China’s version of Wall Street, People’s Square, The Bund, The Boardwalk, F1 racing, all the world’s embassies are here, Yu Garden, The French Concession, anything you want, you can find it here. The City is very well serviced with 16 subway line (to date and adding more), 100s of bus routes and taxis. The city is clean and maintained daily by men and women who sweep the streets mostly by hand. We have all the western businesses here, such as Walmart, McDonald’s, Dairy Queen, Starbucks, IKEA (in fact, we have the second largest IKEA in the world), Metro Department Store, all the brand name stores and more.
